Walk & Talk: A Mega Mentoring Event

MentorStark was proud to bring this flash mentoring model with a health-related twist to the community on Sunday, April 19 at Walk & Talk: A Mega Mentoring Event. Held at the Canton City School’s Bulldog Activity Center from 1pm–4pm, Walk & Talk provided young people, middle-school aged to 27 years old, with an opportunity to build connections with professionals and trusted adults from around the community and beyond through one-on-one or group mentoring discussions. Over 50 mentors participated, representing 13 different career pathways. Best of all, discussions could happen on the track, while shooting hoops, or at tables. Research shows that incorporating physical activity into mentoring interactions could accelerate rapport building and break down barriers. It also shows that simply being in a physically active environment raises dopamine in the brain, the neurotransmitter responsible for motivation, reward, and mood regulation.
